Information Use
Profile
We store information that we collect through cookies and log files in order to create a profile of our visitors. A profile is stored information that we keep on individual visitors that details their viewing preferences. We do not share your profile with third parties.
Cookies
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the visitor’s computer that is tied to information about the visitor. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. We use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. Once a visitor closes the browser, the session ID cookie terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the visitor’s hard drive for an extended period of time. It enables us to track and target the interests of our visitors, in order to enhance the experience on our site. Persistent cookies can be removed by following Internet browser help file directions. If a visitor rejects cookies, he or she may still use every public part of our site. We do not share information gathered though cookies with third parties.
Log Files
Like most standard website servers, we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track visitor’s movement in the aggregate and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are only linked to personally identifiable information when online credit card transactions are conducted (i.e., when donations are made). We do not share individual information gathered though log files with third parties.

Though we make a good faith effort to preserve visitor privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when we believe that we are legally required to do so (e.g., to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our website).

This website contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we, Global Impact, have no control over and are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. Interactive Features
From time to time, our site requests information from visitors via interactive features, such as surveys or quizzes. Participation in these features is completely voluntary and therefore the visitor has a choice of whether or not they disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and e-mail), and information on the visitor’s interests. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site and providing pertinent information to participants. Visitors’ personally identifiable information is not shared with third parties.
Referrals
If a visitor elects to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, we ask the visitor for the friend’s name and e-mail address. Global Impact will automatically send the friend a one-time e-mail with an introduction to Global Impact and an invitation to visit the site. Global Impact stores this information for the sole purpose of sending a one-time e-mail and tracking the success of our referral program. The friend may contact Global Impact at unsubscribe@charity.org to request the removal of this information from our database.
Security
This website takes many precautions to protect our visitors’ information. When visitors submit sensitive information via the website, their information is protected both online and off-line.
When our donation form asks visitors to enter sensitive information (such as credit card information), it is encrypted and protected with one of the best encryption software programs in the industry – SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to being un-locked, or open, as occurs when visitors are just ‘surfing.’
While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we make every good faith effort to protect visitor information off-line. All of our visitors’ information, not just sensitive information, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who require the information to perform a specific job are granted access to data that is personally identifiable.
If visitors have any questions about the security of our website, they may contact us via e-mail.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement so that our visitors are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If, however, we are going to use visitors’ personally identifiable information in a manner significantly different from that stated at the time of collection, we will notify visitors via e-mail and will not disclose the information unless express permission is granted. However, if visitors have opted out of all communication with the site or deleted/deactivated their account, then they will not be contacted, nor will their personal information be used in this new manner.

Charity Navigator Rating
Global Impact currently does not have a rating with Charity Navigator.
However, until May 2015 we maintained a three-star rating with this organization.
The reason for the change is not due to poor performance, but rather is due to the
fact that Global Impact recently changed our operating model, which changed how our
financial statements are structured.
Since Charity Navigator’s methodology compares current
financials to previous financials, and the comparative financial information has changed based
on the new model, they cannot appropriately rate us at this time. We understand that we will
regain our rating within two years when our new financial statements can be compared to a previous
year.
Global Impact’s financial performance, transparency and credibility as strong as ever.
Please see our BBB and other ratings for assessments of our performance.
As the world becomes more interconnected, individuals are increasingly in tune with global needs, and companies find themselves with workforces that span the globe. Global Impact’s charity and corporate partners are making significant contributions to improving the lives of vulnerable people in the U.S. and around the world through their programs. For this campaign, we asked some of our partners what giving global means to them, why it is important, and to share some of their successes.
Giving globally has a vital, far-reaching impact on reducing poverty, improving health, boosting economies and helping create a better world. Progress is being made and you too can have an impact on the lives of people in need globally by donating, advocating and volunteering for the causes you care about most.
We invite you to explore the content below and then let us know why you think it is important to give global through our “Why Give Global?" contest—you could win $250 to open your own Growfund account and start making your giving more strategic and impactful today.

What does giving global mean to your organization?
Anera works in the Middle East and our focus from the beginning has always been "People, not Politics." For 50 years, we have been helping communities and individuals find hope through relief work, education and development. Giving global means that we partner with the grassroots of communities in the Middle East, and recognize that programs and projects can only thrive with support and investment at the local level. Anera's staff come from the communities they serve. At our core, we recognize that our world has become more integrated than ever before, and by helping vulnerable individuals and families in the Middle East, we, in turn, benefit ourselves, our world, our globe.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
Given the dire situation in the Middle East, we work with vulnerable communities throughout the region on high impact projects that elevate the life of many families. Giving global provides everyday families with both the moral and financial support to have their basic needs met, and allows them to flourish and be active participants in their communities.
What does giving global mean to your organization?
Giving global is at the very heart of Compassion International. We were founded in 1952 with a global mission of releasing children in developing countries from poverty. What began as a small child sponsorship effort for 35 war orphans in Korea more than 60 years ago, has grown to encompass more than two million children in 25 countries from Bolivia to Uganda.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
Compassion International serves the children living in poverty around the world who desperately need our love and support so they can forge better, brighter futures. When individuals give globally to children in need, that impact is absolutely life-changing. Independent research shows that Compassion-sponsored children are more likely to complete their education, secure jobs and become community leaders.
FINRA’s support of global causes is a reflection of our employees’ desire to make a positive difference in our communities—whether they are local, national or international in scale.
Why is giving global important?
Giving global is important because it is a reflection of who we are as an organization—mission-focused and committed to enriching the communities where we live and work (and beyond). With social media, we have instant access to what’s going on in the world, and can respond quickly when the need arises.
FINRA’s giving global efforts in action:
Our employees showed their desire to join a global campaign by coming up with unique and creative activities and fundraisers to support the annual Red Nose Day effort in May 2018. Not only did our employees take the opportunity to put their “Noses On” and have some fun, they reached into their hearts and pockets by donating more than $24,000 to Comic Relief.

Gates Philanthropy Partners is the philanthropic initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We believe that giving can fuel innovation, eliminate disease, and empower women and girls. We believe that giving is about better outcomes and bigger impact. About opportunity and optimism, acceleration and transformation, promise and results. And that together, we can accelerate progress on must-solve issues to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people. We believe that by investing in solutions to the world’s most pressing problems, we can—together—impact the lives of millions of people in some of the most impoverished and hard-to-reach places of the world. Success will take ingenuity and rigor. Optimism and grit. To us, giving global means we come together for a shared vision of a world where children and families everywhere are safe from disease, are empowered and educated, and are able to live healthy, productive lives regardless of where they live.
Gates Philanthropy Partners in action:
Over 1.6 billion people around the world are affected by neglected tropical diseases – which are illnesses that have historically been neglected by the global community without many resources directed at them. Investing in and advocating for these diseases is one of our commitments, but with so many diseases needing attention, we focus on interventions that are the most promising or have a proven track record. One of the most impressive interventions is mass drug administration, coordinated by grantees like the END Fund, which coalesces organizations to distribute treatment at schools or community events to reach thousands of children and adults. It costs around 50 cents to deliver an integrated package of neglected tropical disease treatments, so every dollar invested can have massive ripple effects in communities. Together, we can make a massive improvement in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

The idea of giving global reflects GE’s commitment to transforming communities around the world through innovation, leadership and action.
Why does your company support global causes?
GE is a global company with offices/facilities in 130 countries. Supporting global causes is essential to the sustainability of business operations, but more importantly, to the welfare of the thousands of GE employees across the globe.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
Giving global is very important for Global Health Council’s international member organizations, those whom GHC serves, who are on the ground implementing life-saving global health programs—from providing bed nets to families in malaria-stricken regions of India to delivering vaccines to children in rural Uganda that prevent disease and sickness. Ongoing support for these essential global health programs allows individuals to thrive both physically and emotionally, and enables them to give back to their own communities.
What does giving global mean to your organization?
Giving global enables Habitat for Humanity to further our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat has grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries around the world.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
Habitat for Humanity relies on financial support from individuals, corporations and other groups to help families in need of decent and affordable homes around the world. These generous funds allow us to partner with more people around the world to help transform lives and communities through affordable housing. People all over the world partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, homeowners and communities achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.
What does giving global mean to your organization?
People everywhere essentially have the same goals in life. They want a healthy, happy family, they want to provide for their family, and they want to be able to send their children to school. These seem like basic goals, but if you don’t have access to vaccines, prenatal care, emergency surgery, or you can’t work as a result of an accident which left you with a disability, they can be insurmountable. Giving global allows people to develop the tools they need to improve their lives.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
HVO cultivates partnerships with institutions, local providers, volunteers and professional associations, connecting people with one another and with the resources necessary to bring education and training to health workers in low- and middle-income countries. Giving global allows HVO to connect with health workers, many of whom serve in facilities where they are the lone provider in their field. They have few if any opportunities for additional training and professional support. Partnering with HVO allows these professionals to remain in their home country, providing essential medical care while also giving them access to additional training and to a network of colleagues so that they can provide the best care possible.
The training HVO provides does more than just benefit those being trained. The patients served by trained health workers are the ultimate beneficiaries—able to access prenatal care, consult with a doctor about a skin rash, vaccinate their children, have a broken leg set properly, or learn how to maneuver a wheelchair and be able to return to their job after an accident.
There is a wonderful reciprocity that occurs as the highly qualified volunteers HVO sends abroad, who work alongside their colleagues in these difficult environments, return home and bring additional knowledge with them. HVO volunteers learn how to do more with less and develop new skills. They also gain new respect and empathy for their overseas colleagues, learning what it is like to “walk in another’s shoes.”
As an international organization with 189 member countries, our annual and corporate giving are extended to our members worldwide. Whether our giving reaches victims of humanitarian needs such as floods, earthquakes, famine or disease, promotes education and economic opportunities, or helps meet basic needs of the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the refugees, the IMF’s Giving Together program aims to provide relief to those most in need, wherever they are located.
Why does your company support global causes?
Our donors—staff and retirees—support causes in their home countries, or where they see the need, guaranteeing our reach is global, fair and inclusive.
Examples of giving global through the IMF’s Giving Together program include:
Assembling hundreds of school backpacks full of supplies in June 2018 for distribution to East African and Syrian refugee communities in South Sudan, Somalia, Armenia and Lebanon via World Vision—a Global Impact partner.
Fundraiser for the victims of the eruption of Guatemala’s Fuego volcano in June 2018 through giving opportunities expeditiously set up by Global Impact for Save the Children and Global Impact relief funds.
Corporate management donation by one of our senior managers to SOS Children’s Villages, a Global Impact partner, during an official visit to Djibouti in December 2017.
What does giving global mean to your organization?
At International Relief Teams, we believe we live in a global community and humanitarian aid should be available to anyone, no matter where they live. We believe it is important not only to help people who are suffering in our own country, but to extend our reach to forgotten corners of the world.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
The people we serve around the world do not have access to many of the basic necessities we provide: food, water, shelter, medicine, surgery, and education. Through our work, malnourished infants and young children have access to lifesaving nutritional supplements; children in Honduras with chronic infections can have life-transforming surgeries; families in Niger escaping terrorist violence have basic medicines; children and families in poor countries around the globe have food, water, and shelter following devastating natural disasters. And so much more…
We are using all of our firm’s resources and capabilities, such as our capital, data and talent to support people who are still being left behind despite today’s thriving economy. We are focusing our efforts where we believe we can have the greatest impact: building job skills, expanding small businesses, revitalizing neighborhoods and promoting financial health.
Why does your company support global causes?
As an engine of economic growth, business has a critical role to play in expanding economic opportunity and putting it within reach for everyone.
At first glance, the outdoor gear industry and global health markets may seem far removed. But food, water, and shelter are primary concerns for us all, whether we’re scaling high peaks in the Cascade Range or living day to day in a remote village in Kenya.
MSR was founded in 1969 as one man’s mission to make climbing gear safer, and grown into a dedicated team intent on engineering reliable, high-performance equipment that solves real-world challenges. In MSR Global Health, we’re channeling this passion and nearly 50 years of technical expertise to develop technologies that improve the lives of people living in low-resource settings of the developing world.
We support global causes because we believe the same trusted engineering that keeps backcountry enthusiasts safe in the outdoors can be adapted to help these communities gain greater access to life’s most basic human needs -- we believe in the power of technology to transform lives.
As a leading innovator and manufacturer of low-cost, field proven products that improve access to basic needs for people living in low-resource communities around the world, MSR Global Health develops technologies that increase access to vital needs, such as safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. By using our technical ingenuity and our manufacturing expertise, we believe we can develop meaningful solutions that improve global health—and, in doing so, create true and lasting change.
Why is giving global important?
MSR is fortunate to have a world-class team of top scientists and engineers and decades of experience as an innovator and manufacturer. We believe it is our duty to utilize this expertise to develop meaningful solutions that improve global health, empower communities, and create lasting change for those who are living in low-resource communities of the developing world.
What does giving global mean to your organization?
It is estimated that there are more than half a million cases of unrepaired cleft conditions globally[i], yet 9 out of 10 people in low- and middle-income countries cannot access the basic surgical care needed to repair a cleft[ii]. This simple surgical intervention can greatly improve the lives and long-term productivity of patients and their surrounding communities. When you give globally and support organizations like Operation Smile, you are helping to change the lives of our patients, their families, and their communities across the globe.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
The tragic truth is, more people die every year from lack of access to surgical care than from malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV combined[iii]. To our patients, your gift could be the difference between receiving surgery or living a life of shame and isolation. Five billion people in the world do not have access to safe, affordable, and timely surgical care[iv]. At Operation Smile, we have the ability to address this global crisis. With proven, scalable models for care and an international network of medical volunteers, we have the proficiency and adaptability to operate in austere environments around the world.

Our name is derived from Philanthropos, Greek for love of humanity. At Philanthropy University, we believe that Global South civil society leaders embody this love in meaningful, measurable ways. A promising—yet urgent—opportunity lies before us to enrich local changemakers with the knowledge and resources needed to better serve their communities. Global philanthropy is at the heart of this enrichment. Our global donors allow Philanthropy University to continue to offer free online courses, vibrant communities of practice and access to capital opportunities to deepen the impact of civil society where and when it is needed most.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
We view our work through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By connecting the SDGs to local civil society organizations, we better enable them to solve the world’s most pressing challenges—often at peril to their own wellbeing. And while local leaders are uniquely positioned to address the challenges in their communities, they often lack resources and capacity they need to thrive. This is where we focus. By focusing our giving on the capacity of local organizations, donors strengthen communities and, ultimately, the on-the-ground solutions that are moving the needle on human rights issues, government transparency and accountability, the sustainability of the planet, and other issues threatening our future. A pledge of support for local leaders is the most effective way to give globally—and secure a better world for us all.
Philanthropy University in action:
Philanthropy University provides free world-class online courses and vibrant online communities to locally-led organizations so they can build their capacity and grow their impact. Consider Elvis Nshimba, a learner from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Elvis was interested in learning how to make a greater impact in his community, so he signed up with Philanthropy University to learn about leadership, global entrepreneurship and scaling social impact. After engaging on our platform, Elvis reported that Philanthropy University had changed his way of seeing the world. He eagerly shared the University with his colleagues at Malaika—a grassroots nonprofit that empowers Congolese girls and their communities through education and health programs—so they too could improve their methods of teaching, communication and management.
With his newfound skills, Elvis shined at his organization. Soon enough, he was promoted to a project leader, and given the opportunity to supervise the training of 47 women in literacy, entrepreneurship, sewing and embroidery. These women now generate an income for themselves by producing and selling bags.
And Elvis has no plans of stopping. He continues to enroll in Philanthropy University courses, like countless other learners, to deepen his commitment and contributions to his community. In the near term, he plans to use his learnings from Philanthropy University’s Monitoring & Evaluation course to expand the sewing project in its second year.
What does giving global mean to your organization?
Giving globally means recognizing the importance of helping our neighbors all over the world. Giving globally to Rise Against Hunger provides the funding we need to serve the world’s most vulnerable populations, as we work in some of the most disadvantaged countries. Rise Against Hunger is committed to working with our partners to address hunger and malnutrition in the most strategic way possible through the distribution of food and in-kind aid, as well as building the capacities of agricultural and rural communities. Currently, Rise Against Hunger has 20 different partners in 32 countries, where we are working to combat malnutrition in children, mothers, skilled workers, and more.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
Addressing hunger isn't just a nutrition problem, it is a key strategy to increasing education rates and providing a way out of poverty in developing countries. Providing meals in schools increases enrollment. As education levels rise, birth rates and disease rates fall, and communities begin to sustain themselves. The food resources needed to eradicate life-threatening malnutrition are sustainable, and hunger experts agree that school feeding programs are the most effective tool for increasing access to education and improving the nutritional status of children.

At WaterAid, we’re determined to make clean water, toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Giving global means helping the most marginalized and poorest populations around the world. We’re working with the most vulnerable and in the hardest to reach areas to ensure that no one is left behind.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
The water crisis is global and we count on the generosity and compassion of supporters to continue our lifesaving work. For some, the work we do may seem far away and unimaginable, but when supporters give to WaterAid, they begin a journey to understand the transformative power of clean water. For many of us in North America, living without clean water seems incomprehensible, but the reality is that over 844 million people around the world live without clean water every day.

At World Bicycle Relief, we strongly believe that giving globally we are able to help those burdened by the barrier of distance. The bicycle can serve as a tool for development, and as a means not just of transportation, but also of access to education, healthcare and livelihood.
Why is giving global important to those you serve?
Giving globally, a bicycle can support improved health, education, and economic opportunity in the developing world through last mile mobility solutions. A low investment generates a high return. Across the developing world, more than one billion individuals live in rural areas—more than 600 million individuals in sub-Saharan Africa. In these communities, distance and lack of mobility constrain access to health care, education, and economic opportunities. For example, nearly 40 percent of women in Zambia cited distance to health facilities as their single greatest challenge in accessing health care. In Uganda, the secondary school net attendance rate is just 16 percent in rural areas, whereas the rate is 34 percent in urban areas. Distance is often cited as a leading reason for depressed rural school attendance in developing countries.
